Are you in a low paying job?
Are you barely making ends meet with Cal-works, SSI/SDI, and/or Food Stamps?
Have you lost a job?
Is your unemployment about to run out?
Do you have career goals that have never materialized?

The Family Self-Sufficiency program may be the next step in helping you realize your career dreams! The Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program is designed to assist families and individuals in becoming financially stable by providing individualized case management services and financial incentives. Participation in the program is voluntary and requires a five-year personal commitment by participants.

Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participants are eligible to participate in the program regardless of educational status, age, work experience, career interests or possible status as a person with a disability. The program’s emphasis is on employment, career development, education, training, independence from public assistance and credit readiness. The FSS financial incentive is the Escrow (savings) Account. When an FSS participant’s rental share increases as the result of increased earned income, a specified amount of money is deposited into an interest earning savings account on behalf of that qualifying family. Upon successful completion of the five-year FSS program, qualifying families will have access to those accumulated funds.

The Family Self-Sufficiency program is continuously taking applications for the FSS program . You could be the next great success story in achieving your long-term career goals and economic independence! Applications are available at the front desk of the Housing Authority or you may contact Kara Korbel, FSS Coordinator, at 510-747-4337 for additional information.
